"Cristina is very insightful and helpful. She provides thoughtful and encouraging feedback. I always feel heard and understood during our conversations, I've also really appreciated the outlines she sends me breaking down things to work on between our sessions. It helps me think introspectively as well as see what areas I am still struggling in. I highly recommend Cristina Nanez to anyone in need of a therapist who will actively listen and give out "homework" when necessary." -ZocDoc Review

"I have worked with several other people and none were as helpful, direct and engaging as Cristina was. She is very organized, professional, and did not waste any time getting me where I needed to be. Other people at times felt like I was wasting my money or simply venting my problems but Cristina took charge and wasted no time. She was kind, gentle, but firm and direct at the same time. Even though my situation was extremely difficult and complicated, she knew exactly how to handle it and took me through the recovery one step at a time. I can’t thank her enough for where I am now!" -ZocDoc Review

My Approach

Solution-Focused

When seeking therapy, people are looking for answers instead of cycling through the same feelings. My solution-focused approach allows me to help you find the blind spots in your perspective so you can create a realistic plan on how to move forward in your life.

Harm Reduction

Whether you are dealing with addiction, self-harm, or self-damaging habits, I am here to meet you where you are at. Abstinence is not my goal if its not yours. Gradually reducing use and reducing harm has shown better results for long term recovery. My approach will allow you to make mistakes without judgement or punishment. We can learn how to reset together and continue to move forward.

Results

My approach has led almost all of my clients to experience the healing they wanted in just a few sessions. Therapy is not meant to last forever. My goal is to lead you to recovery and give you the skills to maintain a healthy life without me in a year or less. The quicker we create new habits, the quicker you get your life back.

About Me

I’ve been working in the mental health field for 9 years now. My first counseling job was working with offenders in prison and I felt myself become completely passionate about the impact I was creating. After prison, I worked with foster care kids and their families, provided counseling for adolescents in the residential setting, managed and developed programs to treat addiction, managed an eating disorder residential facility, provided live-in support for clients and their families struggling with all types of mental health issues, traveled around the United States to provide recovery coaching, and eventually opened my own practice.

I’ve worked with people on parole, powerful executives and everyone in between.

Since I am no stranger to the mental health recovery struggle, my approaches work with all people from all walks of life.

I have a long history of complex trauma, generational toxicity, family addiction, family violence, low income struggles, substance abuse, and hitting rock bottoms (plural). When I began my journey to become a therapist, I knew I needed to get to a place where I had recovered and could teach others without being hypocritical. I put in the heavy work by going to consistent therapy, confronting my own actions, making amends, committed to facing hard truths about my choices and took every action necessary to heal. Some days aren’t perfect but I trust myself so much more now to handle anything and everything since I’ve been through worse. Healing is so much better than what you’ve been going through. It’s hard to grieve and process the realities of what got you to this place, but like I said, you’ve been through worse and you’re still here!

I now live a beautiful life with healthy people, peace, love and joy. I can control my reactions, process/cope in healthier ways, and connect to others in a way I never imagined before.

My purpose is to create a place safe enough for you to START healing. We all have to start somewhere, and I want everyone that works with me to feel the empowerment and awakening I did when I saw the choice to change the things I truly had control over and allow myself to experience the rewarding outcomes!

Book with me today to start working on the steps to move from hardships to healing.
